Discover Vientiane’s highlights

The best of the Lao capital in 4 days

Visit the Arc of triumph, in particular the 2 most emblematic pagodas, the Buddha Park, and the That Luang, symbol of Laos.

Day1. Arrival – Vientiane (D)

Upon arrival in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, deeply marked by French colonization, but, at the same time, has managed to decisively preserve its identity. In the first two days of the tour there will be the opportunity to explore the major points of interest in the city, breathing in the preponderant European influence, which at times gets confused, until it disappears, between temples and other buildings with a purely oriental style.
Overnight in Vientiane.

Day2. Vientiane City Tour (B/D)

After breakfast, Visit Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple in the city, dating back to 1818. Wat Sisaket is the most important temple still intact in Laos. It houses thousands of Buddha images from many countries, different architectural styles, sculptures and paintings. Continuation with Wat Prakeo, a former royal temple of the Lao monarchy whose origin dates back to 1565, which houses the image of the Emerald Buddha, Buddhist sculptures displayed along the perimeter wall, including a very precious Dvaravati-style stone Buddha from the VI- IX. We then visit the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa. It is an imposing building whose dome, which served as a reliquary, was once covered in gold leaf. In the Lao language these buildings are called "That", the equivalent of the Indian stupas. Considered the most important monument of Laotian religious architecture and, due to its strong symbolic value, it was included in the emblem of Laos in 1991. In evening time, we visit the imposing Patuxay Monument, an Arch of Triumph.
Overnight in Vientiane.

Day3: Vientiane – Shopping Centre – Buddha Park (B/D)

After breakfast, we will visit Shopping Centre at Parkson building, where you can find and buy souvenir for your friends and family, then visit Buddha Park is a famous sculpture park with more than 200 religious statues, including a huge 40-metre high reclining Buddha image. The best spot for photography here is on top of the giant pumpkin structure, which stands about three stories high. The entrance is crafted to look like a demon’s mouth (about three metres high) with a stone ladder inside leading to a bird’s eye view of the entire Xieng Kuang Park.

Buddha Park was built in 1958 by Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat, a monk who studied both Buddhism and Hinduism. This explains why his park is full not only of Buddha images but also of Hindu gods as well as demons and animals from both beliefs. The most outstanding ones include Indra, the king of Hindu gods riding the three-headed elephant (aka Erawan and Airavata), a four-armed deity sitting on a horse and an artistic deity with 12 faces and many hands, each holding interesting objects. They are all equally impressive not only because of their enormous size but because they are full of interesting details and interesting motifs.
Overnight in Vientiane.

Day4: Vientiane – Departure (B)

After breakfast, then it’s free time till transfer to the airport.
